Tanja & Jelger | Wedding in Gent, Belgium

She swept into the room in all her glamour and grace and took a deep breath, “I can’t wait to see him” she exclaimed. She sat while getting her makeup done taking small deep breaths, playing with her engagement ring, waiting anxiously to see her love; to feel his arms wrap around her, to sign the paper that would officially call him hers. The moment came and her mom beamed at her before she stepped into the elevator. I think she stopped breathing at that moment.

He stood on the sidewalk, taking deep breaths not able to hide his excitement. Soon his bride would be walking towards him. He waited for what he said felt like hours. And then he felt her touch, warm and full of love. Those eyes sparkled just for him, his world. And he wrapped his arms around her and there they stood, together, wrapped in each other without a care in the world.

They, before all their family and friends, officially became husband and wife in the beautiful townhall of Gent, Belgium. They beamed at each other, so happy that this day had come. After, Jelger’s dad surprised them with horns as they left the hall, where his mom, sister-in-law, and brother had learned to play. His dad was so proud to give a gift so personal to his son and his beautiful new daughter-in-law.

After a boat cruise around the city, we whisked off to the beautiful and elegant Carelshof where emotional speeches were said, about them and their relationship and their soon departure to Vancouver, Canada. Then, they danced. Hand in hand, cheek to cheek, once again wrapped in each other.

Laura & Billy | Honeymoon Photos in Amsterdam

Amsterdam was their last stop on their honeymoon and we had the pleasure of watching Laura & Billy cuddle in close together while walking by the many canals, squeeze each others’ hands while sipping lattes in a local café, and look for each other while perusing the Anne Frank Huis. They have been together for 7 years, but you would think they had just started on this journey of love and friendship. We took a few minutes to photograph their story in the beautiful city of Amsterdam before gorging out on pancakes!

Laura & Billy, we had such a fabulous day with you, can’t wait till we see each other again!

Another day in Amsterdam.

There is a crack between our beige and brown speckled curtains, and the morning sun barely makes it way through, waking us with a beautiful glow. I roll over and come face to face with my love, still sleeping peacefully next to me. Trying not to wake him I cuddle in closer to him and breathe in his scent, the smell of sleep and peace. I lay there, enjoying the warmth of him against my skin while we’re completely twined; legs, feet, arms, and hair. I close my eyes and relish in this, knowing that this time with him is fleeting and precious.

After spending a few extra moments in bed I whip up a simple Saturday morning breakfast of scrambled eggs with avocado, tomato, and leftover roasted cauliflower while he creates lattes for us to sip on. We change and pack our camera gear, then jump on the train to Amsterdam to meet friends from Seattle for the day! We are greeted with hugs and laughter and fall into easy conversation of learning new things about our friends but also feeling like we’ve known each other for so long. We venture into cafe’s and museums, enjoying just wandering around looking at the architecture while chatting. In between the chatter and cafes him and I find each other and hold hands, fingers entwined with a squeeze. A gentle ‘I love you’ while amongst other people. After a dinner of Pancakes with our friends we climb back onto our train to home where he falls asleep to the roaring of the engine next to me.

Sunday morning is spent like the morning before, but we refuse to move, to let go of each other and enjoy the time much longer than usual. We cuddle and embrace under the warm covers. We let go, but with our feet still touching to cool down, then embrace again. We do this for hours until the clock strikes noon. Finally the pads of our feet reach towards the cool ground and we decide to stay warm together under the warm stream of the shower. Our morning slides into afternoon and we continue to enjoy the company of each other flirting, making meals, and chasing each other up and down the hallway while our laughter echos off of the walls. Our day passes quickly with work and research completed that we finally fall back into bed where we started, with limbs and love entwined.

Tanja & Jelger. | Engagement Session in Den Bosch

Tanja & Jelger met us in our little city for their engagement session and we watched from a distance as her hair blew in the wind, as if almost reaching for him, an extension of her love. Their foreheads together, gently touching, both breathing the same air; thinking the same thoughts, dreaming the same dreams. Out in Het Bossche Broek, it was just the two of them, their world, their love right in front of them. Their love is passionate and sure, one that will take them places and build dreams.

We had a wonderful afternoon of picture taking, then ending the evening on a terrace sipping on cold beers and wine while we watched the sun dip below the horizon on our amazing day together. We’re really looking forward to photographing their beautiful wedding taking place in Ghent, next month!

our love: butter on bread.

A bottle of red wine: aged, opened, poured, and enjoyed. We light the candles around the living room and snuggle in close together, talking and whispering. Voicing our thoughts…

Many challenges and changes. The ones already fought through, ones still before us to face. We discuss the weekend that was; full of many moments and many emotions. The misunderstanding we had and the silence that followed. I had sat with a cup of tea and faced the wall, away from him. Hiding my face. And I read the words on the wall, my gift to him for Valentines. Words from the song sung during our ceremony. “there will be times and there will be things,” and I knew that now is one of those times and things. I read the rest of the words, “You are the love of my life”. He is. I am. We’re each others’ to keep.

This love between us is as smooth as butter on a fresh piece of warm of bread. It melts and soaks into our pours. Mouthwatering. But even then, we sometimes hit a piece that is dry from being in the oven to long. You swallow, feeling the dry crust scrape the edges of your throat. It’s uncomfortable. But you know it’s worth it, cause the next bite will be so delicious; the next moment so grand, you can’t help but continue forward.

And it was, and it is. The disagreement turned into softness, gentleness, thoughtfulness and laughter. During the hours that followed, the sun sunk below the horizon and, with our backs still warm, we talked with truthfulness in our words and our love flowed through every sentence.

… And here now we sit again, with lips stained from the red wine, laughing, smiling, flirting. Butter still soaking into our pours.
